Grandma hobbies are having a moment. Young people are gravitating toward slow, hands-on pastimes. Birdwatching, knitting, gardening, couponing... The trend even has a name: grandmacore. Methodical, a little obsessive, deeply satisfying when it works. Collecting points and chasing deals fits right in. We just do it with transfer partners and sign-up bonuses instead of scissors and a Sunday circular. Grandma would be so proud.
Key Points
🧳 JetBlue and United both raised bag fees by $10. JetBlue went first, bumping first bag fees to $39 for off-peak and $49 during peak travel periods. United followed a day later with a $10 across-the-board hike, now charging $50 for a first bag within 24 hours of departure. Airlines say it’s fuel costs. It’s definitely fuel costs, and also a great time to remind you that most premium travel cards cover checked bags. The first two dominoes, with all other airlines likely to follow.
🚗 Uber is acquiring Blacklane. The executive chauffeur platform operates in 500+ cities across 60+ countries. This is Uber’s move deeper into luxury travel, already signaled by the recent launch of Uber Elite. For travelers, it likely means Blacklane’s white-glove airport transfer service eventually folds into Uber’s app. Whether that makes it better or just... Uber, remains to be seen. Remember that cards like Citi Strata Elite and Bilt include Blacklane credits.
🏝️ Wyndham is offering 7 nights at a resort property for $349. And no, there isn’t a timeshare presentation involved. That’s about $50/night. The certificate must be purchased by April 30, 2026, and the stay booked within 365 days of purchase. It’s targeted toward Wyndham cardholders, but reportedly, anyone can access it by creating a new Resort Vacation Certificate account. Check options before you buy.
💺 United launched Basic Business, becoming the first U.S. airline to bring basic economy logic to Polaris and Premium Plus cabins. Three new fare tiers: Base, Standard, and Flexible. The Base fare gets you the lie-flat seat and the meal, but strips out seat selection, Polaris Lounge access (downgraded to United Club), and one checked bag. Oh, and no changes or refunds. Delta did this last year. United was watching. Other carriers are definitely watching.
✈️ Air India just cut award prices by up to 52% on the Maharaja Club program. Economy redemptions dropped about 30% across most international routes, with U.S.-India flights specifically falling hard — Delhi to San Francisco went from 77,000 to 40,000 points one-way. The new standardized floor for U.S. routes is 40,000 Maharaja Points each way in economy. In a world where programs mostly move prices in one direction, it’s good to see a reduction.
